HUGGINS/BARRETT       (posted 18/1/10)
Our Grateful thanks to Simon Potter for photographs and all information supplied here.

In our continuing research into all the surnames within our family tree we have recently contacted  Mr Simon Potter who himself is researching his own family tree www.familypotter.co.uk

Within his family tree he is also researching the surnames Barrett and Huggins, and it has now come to light that  Mr Potter has connections to both sides of our  family tree, therefore he is actually connected to both our Huggins and to the Barrett's on Shelle's side.
Our own Hilda Huggins (Nan Hilda) had an Aunt also called Hilda Huggins (we will simply call her Aunt Hilda to make things easy) Aunt Hilda married Walter Dean in the early 1920's (see photo's) Walter's parents were James Isiah Dean and Elizabeth Dean (nee Barrett) therfore making Aunt Hilda's mother in law a Barrett.  The connection between Elizabeth and Shelle is as follows, in Shelle's family tree of Barrett the furthest we have traced back to is 1805 and one John Barrett, John Barrett is Shelles great great great Grandfather,  Elizabeth was John's great Grandaughter, thus making Elizabeth Shelle's second cousin twice removed.
Simplified it means that our Nan Hilda's Aunt, also called Hilda, was connected to the Barretts via marriage.

Interestingly this means that while in 1987 Carl Melton (descendant from the Huggins family) married Shelle Barrett and unbeknown to them until now was that back in the 1920's their family's were actually connected.  Small world as they say.

All Photographs here have been kindly submitted by Mr Simon Potter.
They are starting from left to right:
In the uniform of the Rifle Brigade in Northampton in 1918 Walter Dean. Photo 2 is Walter again sometime in the 1920's.
Photograph 3 is Aunt Hilda Huggins and photo 4 is Walter and Hilda's wedding day.

The Following Photographs are from left to right:

Photo 1.  The Dean Family in 1910, left to right: Walter, Elizabeth, James , Albert and the young girl in front is Alice.
Photo 2. Agnes Barrett (Elizabeth's Sister) Mary Barrett (Elizabeth's Mother) and Elizabeth herself in 1921.
Photo3. Far right is James Isiah Dean and Elizabeth with Elizabeth's Brother John Barrett his Paris born wife Denise Amelie Duquenoy and their Daughter Marcelle Juliette in Belgium in1925.
John stayed and made his home in Belgium after WW1.
Photo 4. Pictured in 1938 is again James Isiah and Elizabeth.

This now leads us on to how Simon Potter is connected to our family. Simon's Grandmother Alice was the sister of Walter Dean and so therefore sister in law to Hilda Huggins.  Meaning that Simon's great grandmother was Elizabeth who we have mentioned above.
Another interesting fact is that James Isiah Dean (Aunt Hilda's Father in law) was living at 105 Woodcock Road, Norwich when he died. Shelle, Carl, Pauline and Derek now live in the same area.

WILKIN

As stated on the Wilkin page there is a lot of confusion regarding the parents of Frederick Charles Wilkin born 3rd October 1894.   (Our Granddad Fred's Father)
His Birth certificate states his mother Agnes Wilkin was un-married at his birth and no Father's name was given on the Birth certificate,  however,   new information has come to light in the form of Fredericks Marriage certificate (see below) that has just been discovered.

Two halves of the Marriage Certificate.  Click to enlarge

This states clearly that his Father was a Frederick Charles Wilkin (Deceased) and so first of all it seems Father and Son had exactly the same names but more importantly we do now have confirmation of a Father,  However, this still adds further to the puzzle and throws up even more questions.
Did Frederick senior die before his sons Birth or after? either way, how is he named on his Sons marriage certificate but not on his Birth certificate?
We have to be very careful here that we are about to discover some skeletons in the family Cupboard........The Plot Thickens.

Summary:
Agnes Wilkin (Granddad Fred's Grandmother) declared unmarried but had five children.
Frederick Charles Wilkin Snr(Granddad Fred's Grandfather) but not listed as married to Agnes.
Does not appear on his Sons Birth Certificate but later is listed on his Son's Marriage certificate as deceased.   Why listed as Father on his Sons Marriage certificate but not the Birth certificate?
Frederick Charles Wilkin Jnr (Granddad Fred's Father and son of the above).
