This is a basic and brief tree diagram in order to explain easily the Melton Family Tree. We use the diagram in ascending order and so at the top of our tree are the youngest of the Melton Family. We show on this tree the spouses Maiden names and especially in the case of the Wilkin family would like to show more, however it is almost impossible to show two family line's in one tree so apologies for not showing that line. We also show a key to explain some of the features in the tree such as birth/marriage/death dates, as you will see, the key text colour corresponds with the text colour on the family tree and so easily identifiable

Gemma and Hannah       Shantelle and Jordan       Alexander and Samantha        Jack and Connor

Carl and Shelle              Paul and Claire                          Steve and Sarah          Darren and Charlotte      Kelly      Gary and Jenny

Derek and Pauline (nee Wilkin)                                              Roy and Linda (nee Wilkin)

William and Maria (nee Houseago)

From the above coloured Family name you can now scroll below and and using the same colour again,
find more detail about the colour corresponding family member.
Except now we go in descending order. oldest recorded family member first.

William Melton Born 1772 but birth place unknown and this is where we have been stuck for almost three years. If we can Find William's birth place we can carry on. We think it could be Suffolk but just cannot find that elusive link. William Married Maria Houseage in Topcroft Norfolk 26th July 1805 Died and buried Topcroft Norfolk 1845. William and Maria had eight children. William 1805 John 1807 James 1809 Mary 1812 Nathanael 1815 (died 1816) Nathaniel 1817 (note the spelling) George 1822 Sarah 1828 William is the furthest that we have traced back to. In relation to the children at the top of our tree, William would be their Great great great great great Grandfather.

Right now here is a confusing bit....we believe that Williams son George is the next in line to be the father of Morris below, As george's name is shown as the father on Morris's wedding certificate, however, the baptism records show Morris's Father as Nathaniel (George's Brother) we are still trying to work this one out, but are sure that George is the Father due to his name being on both marriage certificates. Could it be just a simple mistake on the certificate or did Nathaniel Raise Morris as his own, all in all this confusing bit threw us completely because we then followed Nathaniels line, following the wrong line for several years hence why we have little information on George at present. George Melton Born 1822 Denton Norfolk George Married Mary Goulty December 1851.

Morris Myhill Barnabus Melton Born 1852 Topcroft Norfolk Morris Married Louisa Adams 24th Nov 1872 Lakenham Norwich. Louisa Died very soon after the marriage, however we do not know as yet her cause of death but believe to be very sudden. Morris then Married Rebecca Shorten four years later on Sept 4th 1876. We are 99.9% positive that Morris was the First to bring the Melton's to live in Norwich as other members of the family lived and died in Topcroft area or relocated to London. Morris and Rebecca had nine children, we know that all nine children were born of Rebecca, however did Morris's first wife Louisa die in child birth which was common in these times, if this is the case we have no record of any child born to Louisa although research continues. Morris and Rebecca's children are: George 1877 Mary 1879 Ellen 1882 Alice 1884 William 1887 Albert 1890 Arthur 1891 Gertrude 1898 Leonard 1898 (twins) Now here is our first recorded time of two sisters marrying two brothers. definately the first of two occasion this has happened, we are researching a possible third. On this occasion Morris and Rebecca's two children Alice and Gertrude married George and Charles Shorten. Pease note that Rebecca was also a Shorten (confusing or what?)

George Daniel Melton born 13th Sept 1877 St Faiths Norwich. Later baptised at St Mary's and St Margarets Church Sprowston on 7th October 1877 Rememeber that due to later boundary changes St Faiths became Sprowston. George married Florence Ethel Dungar at Salhouse 22nd Jan 1910 George died 29th May 1952 and is buried at St Mary's and St Margarets Church Sprowston next to Florence who died 21st July 1951. George and Florence had eight children: some birth dates unknown. Lesley 1910 John.. Cecil 1914 Albert.. Grace.. Maude.. Edward 1916 William 1918.

Edward (Ted) Melton born 9th Sept 1916 Norwich. Ted married Hilda Florence Huggins at City Hall 23rd December 1939. Hilda died May 2000 Ted died March 2001 Ted and Hilda had four children: Anthony 1940 Derek 1942 Roy 1945 Ivan 1950.

This then brings us up to present day Melton's and also our second occasion of two brothers marrying two sisters. Derek Melton and Roy Melton Marrying Pauline wilkin and Linda Wilkin respectfully.

Derek and Pauline's Children are Carl and Paul. Roy and Linda's children are Steven Darren Gary and Kelly.

Carl and Michelle's Children are Gemma and Hannah Paul and Claire's children are Shantelle and Jordan Steven and Sarah's children are Alexander and Samantha Darren and Charlotte's Children are Jack and Connor.

We really hope that using this page we have simplified the sometimes confusing issue of the Father to Father family line. Its is not easy! and perhaps you can now appreciate the work involved in getting the family tree this far, in short it has taken years and remember, we had to put the very complex jigsaw together. That jigsaw still has pieces missing and it is our hope that one day those pieces will turn up and fit into the puzzle. The whole basis as to why this web site exists in the first place is to record what we believe to be the extremely important knowledge for our children and the children still to come of the history of their family. On Behalf of us all I would like to thank Michelle Melton for her patience, very hard work and dexterity in researching The Melton Family Tree and also to you all for reading our web site and showing your interest.
....and as we always say
To Be Continued.
